High-quality lamps & lights
The lamp is the common term for the object that provides us with light indoors and outdoors in the dark. In fact, this is wrong, because “the lamp” is actually just the light source that goes into a “light”.
Lights and lamps are still simply called "Lampada" in Italian.
It was only 150 years ago that electric lamps found their way into the streets and houses as a luxury.
Today we no longer worry about this and all the manufacturers' creativity goes into developing unusual and extravagant lights.
At Italiving we are committed to craftsmanship and sustainability.
That's why in our shop you will only find designer lamps made from natural materials such as wicker, bamboo, rattan or brass.
They are not only individual and unique because they are 100% handmade, but they are also sustainable because they lead to the complete utilization of the resources used. In addition, they give the room that “natural touch” and that holiday feeling that relaxes you and takes you away from everyday life.
In particular, the hanging light made of small brass rings, which is available in two sizes, creates an absolute holiday ambience in your apartment.
The term “wooden hanging lamp” could be used to summarize all the bamboo lamps and rattan lamps that we offer at Italiving. They stand 100% for sustainability because of the material used but also because they shine most beautifully with energy-saving LED lamps.
A lantern is a translucent frame that is equipped with candles or an oil lamp to provide light. Lanterns were already used in homes and on streets in the Middle Ages. So much for the technical and historical explanation for a light source that is now used more than ever as a decorative element.
For us at Italiving, lanterns are the ambassadors of Italian dolce vita,
Because nothing bathes a room, the balcony, the terrace or the garden in more beautiful, romantic and Mediterranean light than lanterns! It doesn't matter whether you choose one Floor lantern, table lantern or hanging lantern You decide, because it is much more important to find the right style for the lantern that reflects the mood and style of your interior or garden and underlines it with the warm lantern light.
Another important selection criterion for us was what light and shadow effects the lanterns create. These are significantly influenced by the design of the outer shell of a lantern.
In the model “Large floor lantern with a starry sky in the Orient” the cover has a very delicate pattern that creates a “wallpaper effect” on the wall. Light and shadow are placed on the reflective surface (e.g. wall) in such a way that it is covered with wonderful and almost oriental ornaments.
The lantern set “Table lanterns with geometric patterns” also creates such delicate shadow effects both on the walls and on the table. You can also see how well the combination of different lanterns and sizes works and what possible variations this creates.
The Italiving models “round floor lantern with rod pattern” as well as all lanterns made of bamboo or rattan form more graphic shadow patterns. The large openings make these lanterns shine more intensely and brightly.
What you should always pay attention to and what we at Italiving always attach great importance to is the material and workmanship quality of the lanterns. High-quality metal or wood, good paint or protective treatment and care in the construction of the lanterns guarantee that you will enjoy them for a long time. This means you can also use them outdoors without causing any damage. Of course, you should make sure that they are not permanently exposed to moisture, as that is not what they were made for.
The material of the lantern also determines the type of care. You can easily remove dust or other dirt from metal lanterns with a damp cloth. Please never remove candle residue with a sharp object; it is best to use a plastic spatula for the larger residues. You do the fine work with kitchen paper that you have previously made really hot with a hairdryer. This causes the paper to liquefy the remaining wax on the lantern and absorb it directly.
Wooden lanterns that you frequently or regularly set up outside should be treated with a colorless wood care product at least once a year. You put this on a cloth and rub the wooden sticks and surfaces with it.
"Lampada" in Italian
The lamp is the common term for the object that provides us with light indoors and outdoors in the dark. But this is actually wrong, because "the lamp" is actually just the light source that goes into a "light". None of us I would come up with the idea of saying: This room is beautifully lit, but instead we say the room is beautifully lit. This means that the lighting is provided by table lamps, ceiling lights, floor lamps and not the ceiling lamp or the hanging lamp. The term “lamp” comes from Middle High German. There it was borrowed from Old French, which refers to the Latin “lampada”. This was used to describe torches, candlesticks or lights. Lights / lamps are still called "Lampada" in Italian. It was just 150 years ago that electric lamps appeared as a luxury on the streets and in houses. Today we no longer worry about this and all the creativity of manufacturers goes into developing unusual and extravagant lights (not lamps).

Questions & Answers
The origin story of the lamp (not light) is exciting. It all started with the fire, which not only provided warmth but also light. It was used somewhat more specifically when the “Kienspan” was developed – a piece of wood that was soaked with the resin of the trees and thus became the first torch. In the next development step, the wood was dipped in oil and later pitch in order to burn even longer.
In the 18th century, rich people used candles made of beeswax to light their rooms. The poor had to make do with tallow or fat candles. At the same time, lighting with oil lamps also developed - the so-called Argand lamps and Cardab lamps. This was available both as a hanging lamp and as a floor lamp. However, because of the open fire, no lampshades were used. These only found their way into homes after Thomas Edison developed the first long-lasting incandescent lamp in 1879, the gas lamp in 1882 and the metal filament incandescent lamp a little later in 1889.
